Rangers Drop 2-0 Decision to Delaware Valley

MADISON, N.J. -  On Saturday afternoon, the Drew University field hockey team returned to Ranger Stadium for a matchup with Delaware Valley.  Playing on an unseasonably warm day that necessitated a hydration break midway thru the second half, the Rangers (0-5) were unable to overcome an early deficit, as the Aggies (3-3) notched a 2-0 win.

Delaware Valley jumped in front on Gillian Nardelli's goal in the seventh minute.  After Kate Todero's (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) shot was saved on the other end, the Aggies increased their advantage to 2-0 when Samantha Collyer's deflection got past Ryann Callaghan (Fountain Valley, Calif.) in the 12th minute.

The Rangers had another scoring chance on a penalty corner in the 15th minute, but Delaware Valley goalkeeper Rosie Bishop stopped Madi Sheetz's (Macungie, Pa.) attempt to keep it 2-0.  Bishop denied Sheetz again in the 24th minute, and that would turn out to be Drew's best opportunity of the contest.  The Rangers were held to just one shot in the second half of Delaware Valley's 2-0 victory.

Callaghan (0-5) made 10 saves in net, while Josephine Emanuelli (Montclair, N.J.) and Michele Pozyc (Clark, N.J.) were each credited with a defensive save.  Bishop (3-3), meanwhile, recorded four saves for Delaware Valley.

After playing four of their first five games at home, the Rangers will hit the road for five of their next six.  Drew visits local rival FDU-Florham (5-1) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
