Elizabethtown Snaps Drew’s Winning Streak

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Drew University women's basketball team (11-5, 3-2 Landmark) saw its five-game winning streak come to an end with a 75-52 loss to Elizabethtown (9-6, 3-2 Landmark) at Thompson Gymnasium on Wednesday night.  Moe Davis Campbell (Franklin, N.J.) went 8-for-10 from the field for the Rangers, finishing with 17 points.
 
With 12 points, Erin Frederick (Staten Island, N.Y.) was the only other Drew player in double figures.  Hailey Stine (Annandale, N.J.) registered eight points, while Julia Ramos (Hazlet, N.J.) had seven points, five assists and four rebounds.  The Rangers shot 40.4 percent (21-of-52 from the field, but were just 2-for-15 (13.3 percent) from three-point range.  Drew went 8-for-11 (72.7 percent) at the free throw line.
 
After the Rangers took a 5-4 lead on a Ramos trey with 7:13 remaining in the first quarter, Elizabethtown outscored Drew 18-7 over the remainder of the period to take a 22-12 advantage.  The Blue Jays then opened the second quarter on an 11-0 spurt to open up a 21-point cushion, 33-12.  Drew used a Frederick layup and a pair of Ramos free throws to get within 17 points at 33-16, but Elizabethtown responded with a 10-6 run to push the margin back to 21 points, 42-21, at halftime.
 
Drew started the third quarter on an 18-9 run, pulling within 12 when Michaela Keegan's (Mendham, N.J.) jumper made it 51-39 with 3:35 to go.  However, Abby Beyer hit a three on the other end to bring the margin back to 15 points, and she sank another trey to extend the Blue Jays' advantage to 60-43 entering the final period.  Elizabethtown then began the fourth quarter on a 15-2 spurt to take its largest lead of the game, 75-45, with 2:18 remaining.  Drew scored the final seven points of the game to make the final margin 75-52, as the Rangers suffered their first defeat since Dec. 20.
 
Ashley Reynolds tallied 17 points, eight rebounds and four steals for Elizabethtown.  Veronica Christ added 12 points and five rebounds, and Beyer contributed 11 points to go along with four boards.  Emma Powell scored eight points off the bench, while Marissa Emlet distributed four assists.  The Blue Jays shot 47.5 percent (28-of-59) from the floor, 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from downtown, and 84.6 percent (11-of-13) at the charity stripe.  Elizabethtown also held a 36-24 edge on the glass.
 
On Saturday, Drew returns to action with a 4 p.m. contest at Susquehanna (6-9, 1-4 Landmark).  It will be the final game in a string where the Rangers played nine out of 11 away from home.
