Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Rangers Fall to No. 15 Scranton, 64-51

MADISON, N.J. – On Wednesday night, the Drew University women's basketball team began a three-game homestand against No. 15 Scranton.  The Rangers (11-7, 3-4 Landmark) whittled a 19-point deficit down to nine midway through the fourth quarter before ultimately falling to the Royals (17-1, 6-1 Landmark) by a 64-51 count at Baldwin Gymnasium.

Drew held a 7-6 lead after a Moe Davis Campbell (Franklin, N.J.) layup five minutes into the contest, but Scranton ended the first quarter on a 9-1 run to open up a 15-8 cushion.  The Royals extended the margin to 16 points, 28-12, at the 5:08 mark of the second quarter before a pair of Michaela Keegan (Mendham, N.J.) buckets brought the Rangers within 28-16.  However, Scranton scored the final five points of the half and took a 33-16 edge into the locker room.

After the Royals pushed their advantage to a game-high 19 points, 42-23, with 5:26 left in the third quarter, Drew responded with a 10-5 spurt to close the period, cutting its deficit to 47-33.  The Rangers then started the fourth quarter on an 8-3 rally to get within nine, 50-41.  Drew would get no closer, though, as Scranton earned its 12th victory in a row, 64-51.  The Royals were held without a field goal in the final period, with the 17 points at the charity stripe accounting for all of their fourth-quarter scoring.

Erin Frederick (Staten Island, N.Y.) notched her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  She also set a career-high with four blocks.  Julia Ramos (Hazlet, N.J.) contributed 10 points, while Keegan finished with eight points and four assists.  Hailey Stine (Annandale, N.J.) added eight points for the Rangers, who shot 32.1 percent (17-of-53) from the field.  Drew was 5-for-12 (41.7 percent) from long range and 12-for-16 (75 percent) at the foul line.

Bridgette Mann paced Scranton with a game-high 19 points.  She added four assists and five rebounds.  Taylor Rodriguez tallied 15 points off the bench, while Makenzie Mason registered 10 points and eight boards.  Katie Broderick registered nine points and four assists, and Sofia Recupero grabbed seven rebounds for the Royals, who held a 38-34 edge on the glass.  Scranton shot 36.2 percent (17-of-47) from the floor and 35.3 percent (6-of-17) from three-point land.  The Royals ended up 24-for-36 (66.7 percent) at the line.

The Rangers begin the second half of their Landmark Conference schedule by hosting Goucher (0-18, 0-7 Landmark) at 4 p.m. on Saturday.  Drew set program records for assists and margin of victory in an 86-15 triumph over the Gophers on Jan. 6.
