Drew Completes Season Sweep of Goucher

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's basketball team (12-7, 4-4 Landmark) snapped a three-game losing streak and got back to .500 in Landmark Conference play with a 77-30 victory over Goucher (0-19, 0-8 Landmark) at Baldwin Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.  This marked the fifth time this season that the Rangers held their opponent under 40 points, with two of those contests coming against the Gophers.

Hailey Stine (Annandale, N.J.) hit a three 10 seconds into the game, and the Rangers quickly built a 10-3 cushion.  The Gophers pulled within four at 17-13 late in the first quarter before an Aly Axman (Baltimore, Md.) layup made it a six-point game, 19-13, after one period.  Drew then outscored Goucher 24-6 in the second quarter to extend its lead to 24 points, 43-19, at intermission.

It was a 53-23 game when Stine and Julia Ramos (Hazlet, N.J.) combined to sink three-pointers on four consecutive Drew possessions midway through the third quarter.  A Moe Davis Campbell (Franklin, N.J.) layup capped the 14-0 run, as the Rangers extended their cushion to 67-23.  Drew led 71-27 after three quarters, and the margin reached a game-high 48 points when a Sarah Henig (Belmar, N.J.) jumper made it 77-29 with 1:45 left.  A Goucher free throw closed out the scoring, as Drew completed its second straight season sweep of the Gophers, 77-30.

All 10 Rangers scored, led by Stine's game-high 22 points.  Ramos finished with 14 points and four assists, while Davis Campbell notched 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists off the bench.  Michaela Keegan (Mendham, N.J.) went a perfect 4-for-4 on the field, ending up with eight points to go along with seven assists and two blocks.  Erin Frederick (Staten Island, N.Y.), meanwhile, contributed six points, six boards and two blocks.  In addition, Haley Scheuer (Lincroft, N.J.) distributed a career-best five assists.

Drew shot 48.5 percent (33-of-68) from the field, including 34.5 percent (10-of-29) from long range, with Stine draining six three-pointers and Ramos adding four treys.  The Rangers also outrebounded the Gophers 44-28 and handed out 28 assists on 33 field goals.  Drew was 1-for-3 (33.3 percent) at the foul line.

Nicole Wolard recorded 18 of Goucher's 30 points.  She also grabbed nine rebounds.  Quichey Johnson pulled down nine boards, as well, and Nailah Jones was credited with two assists.  The Gophers shot 26.7 percent (12-of-45) from the floor and 60 percent (6-of-10) at the charity stripe.  Goucher didn't attempt a three-pointer in the contest.

On Wednesday night, Drew concludes its three-game homestand by welcoming Elizabethtown (11-7, 5-3 Landmark) to Baldwin Gymnasium for a 7 p.m. showdown.  The Blue Jays posted a 75-52 victory over the Rangers on Jan. 17.
