Rangers End Road Trip With 82-59 Victory at Goucher

TOWSON, Md. – On Saturday afternoon, the Drew University men's basketball team scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back.  The Rangers (9-4, 2-0 Landmark) earned their third straight victory with an 82-59 triumph over Goucher (0-12, 0-2 Landmark) at Decker SRC Arena.

The Rangers led 10-0 just 2:31 into the contest before Goucher rallied to trim its deficit to seven, 25-18, midway through the first half.  However, a Darius Reiter (Littleton, Colo.) trey at the 7:38 mark sparked a 20-8 Drew run to end the period.  Riley Collins (Lacey, N.J.) hit a three-pointer just before the halftime buzzer to make it a 45-26 game at intermission.

A pair of Collins free throws put the Rangers up 49-30 with 16:23 remaining in the game, but the Gophers rallied for 11 straight points to pull within eight, 49-41, at the 13:22 mark.  Goucher would get no closer, though, as a Nate Aldrich (Franklinville, N.J.) layup started a 27-9 spurt that extended the Rangers' advantage to a game-high 26 points, 76-50, with 2:36 left.  The final margin was 23 points, 82-59, as Drew picked up its seventh victory in its last eight outings.

Collins paced the Rangers with 21 points to go along with seven rebounds and four steals.  Yonathan Napoleon (Los Angeles, Calif.) tallied 14 points, eight boards and seven assists, while Dan Roibal (Middletown, N.J.) finished with 13 points.  Aldrich, meanwhile, just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.  Drew shot 46.9 percent (30-of-64) from the field and outrebounded Goucher 45-40.  The Rangers went 9-for-22 (40.9 percent) from long range and 13-for-22 (59.1 percent) at the free throw line.

For the Gophers, Elliott Wiley had a team-high 14 points.  Jacob Smith finished with nine points and 10 rebounds, and Uvan Stewart also registered nine points.  Devon Esslinger, meanwhile, contributed eight points and 10 boards.  Goucher shot 31.3 percent (20-of-64) from the floor, 14.3 percent (3-of-21) from downtown, and 76.2 percent (16-of-21) at the charity stripe.

After playing five straight away from home, the Rangers return to Baldwin Gymnasium for the first time in more than a month on Wednesday night.  Drew begins a three-game homestand with a 7 p.m. matchup against Moravian (10-3, 2-0 Landmark).
