Rangers Notch Historic 71-Point Victory at Goucher

TOWSON, Md. – It was an historic afternoon for the Drew University women's basketball team on Saturday.  The Rangers (9-4, 1-1 Landmark) set program records for fewest points allowed and margin of victory in an 86-15 triumph over Goucher (0-12, 0-2 Landmark) at Decker SRC Arena.  The previous marks were set nearly 40 years ago in an 82-16 win over King's (NY) on Dec. 6, 1979.

Drew has now won four straight by an average of 40.8 points, and the Rangers have held two of their last three opponents under 30.  The 15 points allowed are the fewest by any team in Division III this season.

The Rangers scored the first 20 points of the game and led 22-2 after one quarter.  Drew increased its advantage to 43-5 at halftime, and the cushion was 68-11 heading into the final period.  The Rangers then outscored Goucher 18-4 in the fourth quarter to account for the record-breaking 71-point margin of victory, 86-15.

Sarah Henig (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) became the second Ranger in as many games to post her first career double-double.  She finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Haley Scheuer (Lincroft, N.J.) went a perfect 5-for-5 from the field for a career-high 11 points to go along with eight boards, while Moe Davis Campbell (Franklin, N.J.) and Hailey Stine (Annandale, N.J.) added 11 points apiece.  Julia Ramos (Hazlet, N.J.) tallied eight points, six assists and four steals, and Aly Axman (Baltimore, Md.) contributed eight points and five rebounds.  Erin Frederick (Staten Island, N.Y.) also notched eight points.  Lisa Cappiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Michaela Keegan (Mendham, N.J.), meanwhile, each handed out four assists.

As a team, the Rangers shot 52.1 percent (38-of-73) from the field, 34.8 percent (8-of-23) from three-point range, and 40 percent (2-of-5) at the free throw line.  Drew also outrebounded Goucher 47-21 and tied the single-game program record with 32 assists.  The Rangers last had 32 assists against Merchant Marine on Nov. 27, 2001.

Nicole Wolard had six points and nine rebounds for Goucher.  Quichey Johnson added six points and six boards for the Gophers, who shot 13.3 percent (4-of-30) from the floor and 50 percent (7-of-14) at the charity stripe.  Goucher didn't attempt a three-pointer.

On Wednesday, the Rangers return to action with a 7 p.m. contest at Moravian (11-2, 1-1 Landmark).  The game will mark the end of a stretch where Drew played seven out of eight on the road.
