MADISON, N.J. - Susquehanna University scored a goal in the 66th minute and the River Hawks handed the Drew University women's soccer team a 1-0 Landmark Conference setback in the Rangers' season finale Saturday evening in a wet and cold Ranger Stadium.
How it Happened: Neither side scored in a defensive first half in which the two teams combined for just seven shots. However, Susquehanna (12-3-2, 5-1-1 LC) turned up the pressure in the second period, when it outshot the Rangers 10-4. Senior goalie
Brielle Castanheira, making her first start of the season, made four saves in the period, including back-to-back stops in a frenzied series in the 65th minute. However, the River Hawks finally broke through less than a minute later, as Emily Sullivan drove into the box and drilled in a shot just inside the right post. The Rangers managed a pair of shots down the stretch but could not dent the Susquehanna defense. Castanheira helped keep Drew within striking distance, however, making one final save on a header in the 88th minute.
