Men's Hoops Downs FDU-Florham in Season Opener

MADISON, N.J. - Junior guard Riley Collins scored a team-high-23 points while senior forward Sky Harris tied a career-high with 19 points off the bench and the Drew University men's basketball team traveled across town for a 76-70 victory over FDU-Florham in its season opener Tuesday evening.

Turning Point: The Rangers led by as much as nine in the first half, only to see the Devils rally to tie the game at 49-all with 12:07 left in the second period. But that's when Drew responded with a decisive 12-0 run, sparked by seven straight points from Harris, who capped the surged with a 3-pointer. The Devils would close to within four on a 3-pointer with seven second left, but junior guard Cole Hanntz iced the game with a pair of free throws.

Top Performers: Collins picked up right where he left off last season, when he averaged 18.0 points per game. He shot 9-for-21 from the field, including 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. He also added five rebounds and three assists. Harris needed just 20 points to register his first career 20-point game, shooting 7-for-12 from the floor and 4-of-5 at the foul line, while senior forward Nate Aldrich fell a rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Darius Reiter chipped in with nine points while senior guard Dan Roibal and sophomore forward Malachi Walker grabbed nine boards apiece.

Stat Sheet: Drew led the Devils 35-29 at halftime. The Rangers shot 44.6 percent from the field and 80 percent (14-for-16) at the foul line. The Blue and Green out-rebounded FDU 46-31, leading to 17 second-chance points.

Up Next: The Rangers open their home schedule on Friday and Saturday with the Larry Horner C'40 Rose City Classic, starting with a first-round game versus Wheaton (Mass.) College at 6 p.m. on Friday.
