Men's Soccer Holds Off Wesley to Reach ECAC Final

NEWARK, N.J. - The Rangers raced to a 3-0 lead, then held off a late rally to beat Wesley College 3-2 in the semifinals of the ECAC Division III Tournament Saturday evening at Rutgers-Newark. With the win, Drew (14-6) advances to Sunday championship game to face Rutgers-Newark, which defeated William Paterson University 4-3 in the other semifinal.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Junior Andy Imoh scored the game's lone first-half goal, striking in the eighth minute. The Rangers outshot the Wolverines 8-2 in the first half but didn't break it open until midway through the second period, when senior Niko Cserhat and freshman Brandon Jimenez scored back-to-back goals three and a half minutes apart. A defender, Cserhat converted a penalty kick for his first goal since his freshman year while Jimenez notched his first collegiate tally. But Wesley (16-5-1) came fighting back, scoring twice 1:37, making it a one-goal affair with 2:08 remaining. However, the Rangers held off the Wolverines without a shot down the stretch.

STAT SHEET: Drew finished with advantages in shots (13-10) and corner kicks (4-1). The Rangers were whistled for two more fouls (14-12) than Wesley. Junior goalie Jason Adamo finished with three saves for the Rangers.

NEXT UP: Drew will seek its seventh ECAC title in program and its first since 2009 when it faces Rutgers-Newark at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
