No. 24 Montclair State Downs Rangers in Rose City Consolation Game

MONTCLAIR, N.J. - Senior guard Hailey Stine scored a career-high 22 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team, but the women's basketball team lost 75-60 to nationally-ranked Montclair State University in the consolation game of the Drew University Larry Horner C'40 Rose City Classic on Sunday at Montclair State. The Red Hawks entered the game ranked 24th in the latest D3hoops.com Division III Top-25 poll.

Turning Point: The Rangers (1-2) trailed just 12-10 with 2:25 left in the first quarter, but that's when MSU (2-1) closed the quarter on a 10-1 run to open up an 11-point lead. The Red Hawks took a 38-26 lead into halftime intermission, but the Rangers chipped away and cut the deficit into single digits (50-41) on a conventional 3-point play from sophomore guard Julia Ramos with 2:10 left in the third quarter. However, the hosts pulled away midway through the fourth quarter with an 11-2 run that put the deficit at 20.

Top Performers: Stine shot 4-for-9 from 3-point range and 6-for-6 at the foul line while surpassing her previous career-high scoring total by eight. Three other starters also hit double figures, including Ramos, who finished with 13 points, six assists, and three steals. Sophomore forward Erin Frederick and freshman forward Sekya Campbell chipped in with 10 points apiece. 

Stat Sheet: Montclair State shot 59.6 percent while the Rangers connected on 34.5 percent of their shots. The Hawks held a 39-25 rebounding advantage.

Notes: Albertus Magnus College won the tournament title with a 57-52 victory over St. Lawrence University...AMC's Shyla Osmond earned Tournament MVP honors and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by teammate Jill Johnson, Stine, Katie Frederick of St. Lawrence, and Kim Calloway of Montclair State.
