WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior guard
Darius Reiter tied a career-high 23 points on 7-of-11 3-point shooting and the Drew University men's basketball team earned a 68-51 victory over host Catholic University in its Landmark Conference opener on Saturday. The Rangers are off to their best seven-game start since the 1979-80 team was also 6-1.
How it Happened: The Rangers (6-1, 1-0 LC) never trailed after scoring the first five points of the contest. Drew broke open a close game midway through the first half, reeling off a 9-0 run to push its lead into double digits (21-10) with 4:21 left following a tip-in from Reiter. Catholic would narrow the gap to four late in the half, only to see the Rangers closed the period on a 9-0 run to assume a 31-18 lead at the half. Drew dialed long distance on its late run, as Reiter nailed two of his 3-pointers during the stretch while senior forward
Sky Harris also connected from deep. The Cardinals were unable to get any closer the rest of the game as the Rangers gradually pulled away in the second half.
Top Performers: Reiter's seven 3-pointers were a career-high and the most by a Ranger since Collins also nailed seven in a win over Mount Aloysius College on Jan. 2, 2017. Reiter equaled his previous career-high scoring output set on Jan. 7, 2017 in a victory over Goucher College. Harris added 16 points while canning all three of his 3-point attempts while senior forward
Nate Aldrich contributed 10 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard
Riley Collins posted a solid all-around game with nine points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and five steals.
Stat Sheet: The Rangers shot 54.0 percent for the game, including 48.0 percent (12 for 25) from beyond the arc while holding Catholic to 29.6 percent shooting. Drew outrebounded the Cardinals 39-27.
Next Up: Drew takes a week off before visiting Penn State Abington next Saturday in a non-conference tilt starting at 4 p.m.
