Rangers Drop Home Finale to Moravian, 71-60

MADISON, N.J. – In its final home game of the season, the Drew University women's basketball team (12-12, 4-9 Landmark) suffered a 71-60 loss to Moravian (17-7, 7-6 Landmark) at Baldwin Gymnasium on Wednesday night.  Hailey Stine (Annandale, N.J.) sank six treys in the contest, finishing with a game-high 22 points.

Stine paced three Rangers in double-figures.  Michaela Keegan (Mendham, N.J.) tallied 16 points and four assists in her final home contest, while Erin Frederick (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.  Sarah Henig (Belmar, N.J.) grabbed a team-best nine boards, and Julia Ramos (Hazlet, N.J.) handed out three assists.  As a team, Drew shot 37.7 percent (23-of-61) from the floor and 35.3 percent (6-of-17) from long range, with Stine contributing all 18 points from downtown.  The Rangers went a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line.

Moravian jumped out to a 9-2 lead midway through the first quarter before a Henig layup started a Drew rally.  Stine tied it, 11-11, with a trey at the 41-second mark, then she hit a long three just before the first-quarter buzzer to give the Rangers a 14-11 advantage after 10 minutes.

After Stine drained another deep trey to put Drew up eight, 19-11, early in the second quarter, the Greyhounds responded with a 10-2 rally to force a 21-21 deadlock with 4:19 left until halftime.  Moravian took the lead on a three-pointer, but Stine sank another one from deep to tie it again, 24-24, with 1:41 left in the first half.  The Greyhounds hit a three on their next possession to go back in front before Stine hit a layup and Ramos drained two free throws to put the Rangers in front, 27-26, at the break.

However, Moravian began the third quarter on an 18-8 spurt to open up a 45-34 cushion.  The Rangers countered with a 9-4 run to get back within six, 49-43, before a trey late in the period extended the Greyhounds' advantage to nine points, 52-43, entering the fourth quarter.  Moravian then tallied the first nine points of the final frame to take its largest lead of the game, 61-43, with 6:11 to go.  Drew cut its deficit to nine, 65-56, with 1:48 left, but would get no closer, as the Greyhounds notched a 71-60 triumph.

Camille McPherson led Moravian with 21 points.  She added seven rebounds and five assists.  Karlie Brogan and Nadine Ewald, meanwhile, each recorded a double-double, as the Greyhounds held a 45-32 edge on the glass.  Brown posted 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Ewald tallied 12 points and 14 boards.  Maddie Capuano also finished with 15 points for Moravian, which shot 43.1 percent (28-of-65) from the field.  The Greyhounds were 7-for-14 (50 percent) from three-point land and 8-for-14 (57.1 percent) at the charity stripe.

The Rangers conclude the 2017-18 campaign on Saturday afternoon, when they visit Juniata (20-4, 9-4 Landmark) at 4 p.m.  Drew has won three straight against the Eagles, including a 46-44 triumph at Baldwin Gymnasium on Jan. 13.
