Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Drew Topped By No. 14 Scranton, 65-52

SCRANTON, Pa. – Trailing by 12 at halftime on Thursday night, the Drew University women's basketball team pulled within one at the end of the third quarter.  However, 14th-ranked Scranton (21-1, 10-1 Landmark) outscored the Rangers (12-10, 4-7 Landmark) 22-10 in the final period en route to a 65-52 victory at the John Long Center.  The game was delayed a day because of weather.

Scranton held a 33-21 edge at the break, but Drew scored the first eight points of the third quarter to trim its deficit to four, 33-29.  After a Hailey Stine (Annandale, N.J.) trey made it a two-point game, 38-36, with 4:16 left in the period, the Royals went on a 5-0 run to push their lead back to seven, 43-36.  The Rangers responded, though, as Julia Ramos (Hazlet, N.J.) sank a three-pointer to start a 6-0 run before a Moe Davis Campbell (Franklin, N.J.) free throw as the quarter expired brought Drew within one, 43-42, heading to the fourth.

However, the Royals began the fourth quarter on an 11-1 spurt to bring the margin back to 11 points, 54-43.  Ramos drained a three to get Drew within eight, 54-46, but the Rangers would pull no closer.  Scranton rallied for 11 of the next 15 points to take its largest advantage of the game, 65-50, before Erin Frederick (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a pair of free throws to cap the scoring in the Royals' 65-52 triumph.

Frederick was the only Ranger in double-figures, finishing with a career-high 18 points to go along with seven rebounds.  Ramos had nine points, eight boards and three assists, while Davis Campbell contributed nine points and five rebounds.  In addition to notching six points and four assists, Michaela Keegan (Mendham, N.J.) pulled down a career-best 10 caroms, as Drew outrebounded Scranton 41-32.  The Rangers shot 36.8 percent (21-of-57) from the field, 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from three-point land, and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) at the charity stripe.

Ramos scored the first bucket of the game, but Scranton quickly responded with nine straight points to take a 9-2 lead.  After a pair of Davis Campbell baskets made it 9-6, the Royals went on a 10-6 spurt to make it 19-12, and Scranton held a 19-14 advantage at the end of the first quarter.  The Royals then outscored the Rangers 14-7 in the second quarter to increase their cushion to 33-21 at halftime.

Bridgette Mann paced the Royals with 34 points and eight rebounds.  Katie Feehrey contributed six points and six assists, while Makenzie Mason finished with five points, five boards, four assists and three blocks.  Scranton shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the floor, 40 percent (8-of-20) from downtown, and 78.6 percent (11-of-14) at the free throw line.

The Rangers return to Baldwin Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon for a 4 p.m. matchup with Susquehanna (10-11, 5-6 Landmark).  Seniors Keegan and Haley Scheuer (Lincroft, N.J.) will be honored prior to the game.
