Rangers Notch Fourth Straight Victory, 9-5 Over Stockton

MADISON, N.J. – Jenna Morelli (Monroe Township, N.J.) and Mia Campanale (Branchburg, N.J.) scored four goals apiece, as the Drew University women's lacrosse team (5-2) notched a 9-5 victory over Stockton (3-2) on Saturday afternoon.  The win was the Rangers' fourth straight.

Stockton scored the first goal of the game, but Campanale responded off a feed from Allie DiDario (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) less than two minutes later.  After the Rangers built a 3-1 lead, the Ospreys notched back-to-back tallies to tie it at 3-3 late in the first half.  Stockton was issued a yellow card with 1:49 remaining until halftime, though, and Drew took advantage, as Morelli put one in the back of the net at the 1:21 mark to put the Rangers up 4-3 at the break.

Drew then rattled off four goals in barely over five minutes to begin the second half, extending its advantage to 8-3.  After a free position goal by Stockton's Michaella Butrico with 21:13 remaining, neither team would score for nearly 15 minutes until the Ospreys' Kristen Russo broke through at the 6:34 mark.  However, Campanale scored off a feed from DiDario 34 seconds later to bring the Rangers' final cushion back to four, 9-5.

Sage Johnson (Timonium, Md.) had the other Drew goal, and she added an assist, four ground balls and three draw controls.  DiDario tallied six ground balls, six caused turnovers and three draw controls to go along with her two assists, while Morelli also forced five turnovers.  Overall, the Rangers held a 25-18 advantage on the ground.  Goalkeeper Katiana Michalski (Eastchester, N.Y.) saved 12 Stockton shots.

Five different players scored for the Ospreys.  Melanie Patterson had a goal and team-best three draw controls, and Tamara Torales paced Stockton with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Stevie Ader (3-2) made eight saves between the pipes.

On Wednesday, the Rangers hit the road for the only time in a five-game span when they visit Kean (5-0) at 4 p.m.
