Kean Snaps Drew’s Winning Streak

UNION, N.J. – In a contest that was moved up a day due to weather, the Drew University women's lacrosse team (5-3) dropped a 15-8 decision to Kean (6-0) at Alumni Stadium on Tuesday.  The loss snapped the Rangers' four-game winning streak.

Kean jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but Drew responded with three of the next four goals to trim its deficit to 6-3 with 11:23 left in the first half.  After the teams traded tallies, the Cougars scored twice in the last 40 seconds of the half to increase their advantage to 9-4 at the break.  The Rangers notched the first goal of the second half before Kean posted four of the next five to increase its cushion to 13-6 en route to a 15-8 triumph.

Lauren Cassella (Edison, N.J.) had five of Drew's eight goals, with Sage Johnson (Timonium, Md.) adding two and Allie DiDario (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) scoring the other.  DiDario also recorded four ground balls, three caused turnovers and five draw controls, while Johnson controlled six draws to lead the Rangers.  In addition to picking up four ground balls, Katiana Michalski (Eastchester, N.Y.) (5-3) saved 17 of Kean's 38 shots.

For the Cougars, Morgan Graham scored five goals while also picking up five ground balls.  Emily Stasuk finished with four goals and an assist, and Brittany Ballack recorded three goals, an assist and five draw controls.  Danni LeSant, meanwhile, had a pair of goals to go along with four draw controls and three ground balls.  Goalkeeper Nikki Apostopoulos (6-0) made 11 saves and collected 10 ground balls.

Drew (0-0 Landmark) begins Landmark Conference play on Saturday, when Catholic (3-4, 0-0 Landmark) visits Ranger Stadium for a 12 p.m. matchup.  The Cardinals are the four-time defending Landmark champions.
