Drew Falls to No. 21 Catholic In Landmark Opener

MADISON, N.J. – On Saturday afternoon, the Drew University women's lacrosse team (5-4, 0-1 Landmark) began its Landmark Conference schedule with a 19-5 loss to No. 21 Catholic (4-4, 1-0 Landmark) at Ranger Stadium.  Both teams wore gold shoelaces at the game in support of the "Go 4 the Goal" Foundation's "Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer" initiative.
 
Catholic jumped out to a 13-0 halftime lead, but Drew scored three goals in the first eight minutes of the second half to pull within 14-3.  The Cardinals tallied four of the next five, though, to make it 18-4 before Allie DiDario (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) found the back of the net with 2:28 remaining.  Catholic then registered a late goal to account for the final margin.
 
DiDario and Lauren Cassella (Edison, N.J.) each scored twice for the Rangers, while DiDario also had six draw controls and two caused turnovers.  Charly Nolting (Craik, Sask.) recorded the other Drew tally.  Sage Johnson (Timonium, Md.) controlled eight draws, as the Rangers held a 15-9 edge in that category.  Shaylyn MacKinnon (Colchester, Conn.), meanwhile, picked up a team-best three ground balls.  Katiana Michalski (Eastchester, N.Y.) (5-4) made eight saves before being relieved by Charlotte Grimm (Bernardsville, N.J.), who was credited with one save.
 
Megan Ellis paced Catholic with three goals and two assists.  Jessica Lyons also had a hat trick to go along with three draw controls, while Anna Maupin and Erin Dugan each tallied two goals and three ground balls.  Nanci Hernandez (4-4) played the first half in net, making six saves and picking up three ground balls.  Christina De Cesaris recorded one second-half save for the Cardinals.
 
The Rangers host Old Westbury (1-3) to conclude non-conference play at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.  The contest was originally postponed due to weather on March 10.
