Drew Swept at Elizabethtown to Start Landmark Play

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – On Sunday afternoon, the Drew University softball team began its Landmark Conference schedule with a doubleheader at Elizabethtown.  In a twinbill that was delayed a day due to weather and field conditions, the Blue Jays (10-2, 2-0 Landmark) earned a sweep over the Rangers (7-5, 0-2 Landmark).  Elizabethtown won the first game 8-0 before earning a 9-1 victory in game two at The Nest.

Game one was scoreless until the third inning, when Wendy Header put Elizabethtown on the board with an RBI single.  The Blue Jays added two more in the fourth, then scored five times in bottom of the fifth.  Sarah Personette belted a three-run homer in the inning, making it 8-0 and bringing the contest to an early conclusion.

Elizabethtown pitcher Alyssa Wilkinson (6-0), meanwhile, tossed a five-inning perfect game.  She retired all 15 Rangers she faced, striking out three.

Stephanie Burns (Bellmore, N.Y.) (3-2) took the loss after surrendering eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits with three strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

In game two, Elizabethtown took an early lead on a leadoff homer by Kirstin Blass in the bottom of the first.  The Rangers tied it on Michelle Nestor's (Hazlet, N.J.) RBI single in the top of the second, but the Blue Jays put up a five-spot in the third and scored three more in the fifth to claim a 9-1 victory.

As a team, Elizabethtown recorded 13 hits in game two, as five different Blue Jays had multi-hit efforts.  Jess Kutteroff was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Blass finished 1-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.  Amber Sergas (3-2) gave up an unearned run on three hits with two walks and a strikeout in a five-inning complete game.

Nestor, Sophie Sirota (Windsor, Conn.) and Brooke Adams (Cedar Grove, N.J.) had the three Drew hits in the contest, with Adams also stealing a base, and Meghan Beyer (North Arlington, N.J.) scored the Rangers' run.  Cara O'Leary (Staten Island, N.Y.) (2-1) went 2.1 innings in the circle, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits.  Megan Hulmes (Hawthorne, N.J.) allowed three runs on five hits in 2.1 innings.

The Rangers return to action on Tuesday, when they visit Rutgers-Newark (8-2) for a 3 p.m. twinbill.
