Results: Men | Women

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. –
On Sunday, the Drew University men's and women's tennis teams played the first matches of their Spring Break trip against Lebanon Valley.  The Ranger men (3-0) posted a 7-2 victory over the Dutchmen (2-2), while Lebanon Valley (3-2) defeated Drew (2-1) by a 7-2 count in the women's match.

The men's team went 5-1 in singles play.  Geoffrey Diehl (West Hartford, Conn.) earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Blake Martin in the No. 1 position, while Drew's No. 2 Will Morrison (San Diego, Calif.) defeated Reed Morris 6-3, 6-4.  At No. 3 singles, Bryce Kennedy (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) notched a 6-4, 6-2 triumph against Jordan Heavel.  The Rangers also got a win from Karel Raska (Morristown, N.J.), who topped Elliott Kleckner 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 4 spot.  Lloyd Goldstein (New Providence, N.J.) dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Luke Senft at No. 5 singles, but Drew clinched the overall victory with Bryce Weizer's (Orwigsburg, Pa.) 6-1, 2-6, 10-8 triumph over Ben Hinkley at No. 6.

In doubles play, Lebanon Valley's Heavel and Martin notched an 8-6 win over Morrison and Kennedy in the No. 1 position.  Drew earned the victory at No. 2 doubles, though, as Vineet Vemulapally (Boca Raton, Fla.), who only played doubles on Sunday, teamed with Weizer to beat Kleckner and Morris 8-7.  Diehl was paired with Chris Thompson (Bethlehem, Pa.) for the first time, and the duo recorded an 8-5 victory over Senft and Hinkley at No. 3 doubles.

Drew earned wins in the No. 1 and 2 singles matches on the women's side.  Ashley Camel (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) registered a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Marla Scacchitti in the No. 1 position, while Maria Navas Espinal (Valle, Colombia) defeated Melanie Haas 6-3, 7-6 at No. 2.

However, Lebanon Valley won the remaining four singles matches, as well as all three doubles encounters.  Sammy Bost beat Drew's No. 3 Cristina Riccio (New Providence, N.J.) by a 6-1, 6-2 count, while Christina Christodoulou (Branchburg, N.J.) suffered a 6-2, 6-2 defeat against Elizabeth Drda in the No. 4 spot.  At No. 5 singles, Xylia Bruff (South Plainfield, N.J.) was beaten 6-1, 6-0 by Megan Williams, and Drew's No. 6 Sophia Agathis (Far Hills, N.J.) dropped an 8-1 decision to Meridyth Sanders.

At No. 1 doubles, Camel and Navas Espinal suffered an 8-3 defeat against Scacchitti and Haas.  Christodoulu and Riccio fell to Bost and Williams by a score of 8-4 at No. 2 doubles, while Bruff and Agathis went to a tiebreak against Elise Hanks-Witaszek and Emily Wilczek before ultimately falling, 8-7.

While the women don't return to action until Thursday, the men's team faces Nebraska Wesleyan (0-5) at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
