Offense Erupts In 19-5 Win at Guliford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The goals came early and often for the Drew University women's lacrosse team on Monday.  The Rangers (2-2) scored 41 seconds into the game and built an 8-0 lead midway through the first half of an eventual 19-5 win over Guilford (2-2) at the Armfield Athletic Center on Monday.

Allie DiDario (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) started the offensive onslaught with a free position tally, and Lauren Cassella (Edison, N.J.) made it 2-0 just 20 seconds later.  Mia Campanale (Branchburg, N.J.) added three straight goals, including back-to-back free position shots, midway through the first half to give the Rangers an 8-0 lead.  After Guilford put two on the board, Campanale recorded her fourth tally of the half to make it a 9-2 game at the break.

After the sides traded scores to start the second half, an unassisted tally by Cassella started an 8-0 spurt that increased Drew's advantage to 18-3.  Cassella then assisted on Sage Johnson's (Timonium, Md.) late goal, as the Rangers snapped their losing streak with a 19-5 victory.

Three players accounted for 15 of Drew's 19 goals.  DiDario went 4-for-4 on free position attempts, finishing with six goals and two assists.  She also picked up five ground balls and controlled four draws.  Cassella tallied seven points on five goals and two assists, while Campanale had four goals and converted on both of her free position shots.  Johnson, meanwhile, finished with two goals, two assists and 10 draw controls.  Katiana Michalski (Eastchester, N.Y.) (2-2) earned the win after making 10 saves in 43:23 between the pipes.  Charlotte Grimm (Bernardsville, N.J.) played the final 16:37 in net.

For Guilford, Madison Iandoli led the way with two goals and four draw controls.  She also caused three turnovers.  Abigail Horchar had a goal and an assist to go along with a team-high five ground balls.  Nia Gill, meanwhile, controlled four draws for the Quakers.  Sarah Sedaghat (2-2) recorded five saves in goal.

Drew will remain in North Carolina for its next game, a neutral site matchup with King's (2-2) at 12 p.m. on Wednesday.  It will mark the finale of the Ranger's four-game road trip.
