MADISON, N.J. –
After having its scheduled contest against local rival FDU-Florham cancelled on Wednesday due to field conditions, the Drew University baseball team waited out the rain on Thursday morning with hopes of getting its game against Franklin & Marshall in.  The skies eventually cleared, allowing the Rangers and Diplomats to play eight innings before darkness set in.  There were a combined 26 runs and 28 hits in the contest, with Franklin & Marshall (12-13-2) earning a 15-11 victory over Drew (15-11) at Doc Young Field.

Franklin & Marshall jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, scoring three runs in the first and adding two more in the second.  However, the Rangers with three in their half of the second to pull within 5-3.  Drew then put up a four-spot in the third to go in front.  Matthew Lange (Glen Rock, N.J.) ripped an RBI single before Ryan Sabbag (Miami, Fla.) drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game.  Mike Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.) followed with a sacrifice fly to center that gave Drew the lead, and the Rangers added an unearned tally when Max Felsenstein (Glen Rock, N.J.) reached on an error.

The Diplomats put up one in the fourth before erupting for seven runs in the top of the fifth.  Jimmy Whelan give Franklin & Marshall the lead with his three-run double to right, and Dan Marano followed with an RBI single to left.  Don DiLoreto then drove in a pair with a single that was just fair down the left field line.

In the bottom of the fifth, Drew put a pair of runners on for Zach Lipshitz (Scotch Plains, N.J.), and he responded by crushing a three-run homer to left that cut the Rangers' deficit to 13-10.  After a pinch hit single by Logan Butler (Old Tappan, N.J.), it looked like Lange might get Drew within one run, but his shot to right was caught on the warning track.  Franklin & Marshall then picked up a pair of insurance tallies in the top of the eighth.

Brent Lincoln (Flemington, N.J.) drew a walk leading off the bottom of the eighth, then Sabbag singled and Pettigrew walked to load the bases with one out.  Felsenstein was up next, and he worked a walk to force in a run and bring the tying run to the plate.  However, DiLoreto induced a pair of fly balls to center field to get out of the inning, at which point the umpires declared it was too dark to continue, giving the Diplomats the victory, 15-11.

Three different Rangers had multi-hit games, with Felsenstein, Lipshitz and Lange all notching a pair of hits.  Lipshitz scored two runs and drove in three, while Felsenstein finished with two RBIs.  Lange and Isaiah Mateo (Hoboken, N.J.) both crossed the plate twice, and Pettigrew contributed a pair of RBIs.

Drew used eight pitchers in the contest, with starter Joe Dahut (Kensington, Md.) going 0.1 innings.  He allowed three runs on two hits and walked one.  Brandon Radd (Edison, N.J.) (0-1) took the loss after yielding five runs on four hits in 1.2 innings of work.  He also struck out two.

For the Diplomats, Marano tied a Centennial Conference record with six hits (all singles).  He finished 6-for-6 with four RBIs and two runs scored.  Jimmy Whelan had two hits and five RBIs, while Kengo Kawahara tallied three hits and scored three runs.  DiLoreto, meanwhile, was 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs.  He also earned his first save of the season by getting the final two outs on the mound.

Matt Devlin started for Franklin & Marshall, tossing 2.2 innings and surrendering seven runs (six earned) on seven hits with four walks.  Bobby Gaston (1-0) gave up three runs on three hits with three walks and a strikeout over 2.1 innings and was credited with the win.  Following Gaston, four relievers held the Rangers to one run on one hit and three walks over the final three innings.

This weekend, Drew (5-4 Landmark) resumes Landmark Conference play by hosting a three-game series against Scranton (10-13, 3-4 Landmark).  Saturday's doubleheader begins at 12:30 p.m., while the series finale is set for 12 p.m. on Sunday.  In addition, the Rangers will honor their five seniors on Saturday.
