Scranton Gets By Drew On Wednesday Night

SCRANTON, Pa. – On Wednesday afternoon, the Drew University women's lacrosse team (8-6, 2-3 Landmark) dropped a 17-7 decision to Scranton (8-6, 4-1 Landmark) at Fitzpatrick Field.  With the loss, Drew's second straight, the Rangers dropped into a three-way tie for the fourth and final spot in the Landmark Conference Tournament with two games remaining.
 
Scranton scored the first five goals of the game and extended its lead to 10-2 with 6:41 remaining in the first half.  Drew rattled off three straight scores to pull within 10-5 before the Royals added a tally late in the half to increase their advantage to 11-5 at the break. 
 
The Royals then opened the second half with four consecutive tallies to open up a 15-5 advantage.  After Lauren Cassella (Edison, N.J.) got the Rangers back on the board, Scranton added two more goals to make it 17-6 en route to a 17-7 victory.
 
Charly Nolting (Craik, Sask.) paced the Rangers with three goals.  Sage Johnson (Timonium, Md.) scored twice and controlled five draws, while Allie DiDario (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) finished with a goal, two assists, four ground balls, four caused turnovers and five draw controls.  Cassella, meanwhile, had a goal and an assist.  Goalkeeper Katiana Michalski (Eastchester, N.Y.) (8-6) recorded three ground balls and two caused turnovers to go along with 14 saves.
 
Jill Henson had three goals and three assists for Scranton.  Kaitlyn Murphy and Bridget Lally each tallied three goals and one assist, while Morgan Windisch also collected four points on two goals and two assists.  She added four ground balls.  Shannon Warburton also scored a pair for the Royals.  Erin Putnam (7-6) earned the win after making four first-half saves, and Lauren Devlin saved three Drew shots in the second half.
 
Drew visits Goucher (1-12, 1-4 Landmark) at 1 p.m. on Saturday for their final road contest of the season.  It will mark the end of a span where the Rangers played four out of five away from home.
