Drew Moves Closer to Landmark Playoff Berth

TOWSON, Md. – On Saturday afternoon, the Drew University women's lacrosse team (9-6, 3-3 Landmark) snapped its two-game losing streak with a 21-10 victory over Goucher (1-13, 1-5 Landmark) at Beldon Field.  With the victory, the Rangers moved into a tie for fourth place in the Landmark Conference and put themselves in a position to qualify for the postseason with a win next weekend.

After Sage Johnson (Timonium, Md.) and Lauren Cassella (Edison, N.J.) scored 30 seconds apart to give the Rangers an early 2-0 lead, Goucher rallied for five straight goals to go ahead 5-2.  Drew responded with seven of the next eight tallies, though, opening up a 9-6 advantage on Mia Campanale's (Branchburg, N.J.) goal with 7:29 left in the first half.

The Rangers led 10-7 at halftime and extended that cushion to 12-7 early in the second half.  After Goucher scored a pair of goals to pull within 12-9, Drew countered with the next six tallies to open up an 18-9 advantage with 12:22 remaining.  The Rangers won by a 21-10 count, marking the second time this season that Drew reached the 20-goal plateau.

Campanale led the Rangers with a career-high eight goals, one shy of the single-game program record.  Cassella added nine points on six goals and three assists, while Charly Nolting (Craik, Sask.) finished with two goals and four assists.

Allie DiDario (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) tallied 12 draw controls to establish a new Drew single-season record in that category.  She has 99 draw controls this season, breaking the mark of 98 set by Katie Woods in 2000.  In addition, her 12 draw controls in the contest equaled the second-most for a game in program history.

Johnson controlled seven draws (giving her 90 on the season) to go along with two goals and two assists.  Goalkeeper Katiana Michalski (Eastchester, N.Y.) (9-6), meanwhile, picked up a team-high four ground balls while also notching seven saves.

Shannon Stull scored five goals and caused three turnovers for the Gophers.  Soleil Gagne added two goals and four caused turnovers, while Camryn Agostino also found the back of the net twice.  In addition to collecting three ground balls, Bridget Den Boer (1-13) made 18 saves in goal.

Drew concludes the regular season by hosting Susquehanna (4-7, 2-4 Landmark) next Saturday at 1 p.m.  The Rangers will clinch their third consecutive Landmark Conference Tournament berth with a victory over the River Hawks.
