Rangers Clinch Playoff Spot With Senior Day Win

MADISON, N.J. – For the third straight year, the Drew University women's lacrosse team is headed to the Landmark Conference Tournament.  Needing a win in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon to secure a postseason berth, the Rangers (10-6, 4-3 Landmark) outscored Susquehanna (4-9, 2-5 Landmark) 8-1 in the second half to overcome a halftime deficit and earn a playoff-clinching 13-7 victory at Ranger Stadium.

Drew honored its graduating seniors prior to the game, then saw Susquehanna jump out to a 6-2 lead with 8:42 remaining in the first half.  Charly Nolting (Craik, Sask.) started the Rangers' comeback when she found the back of the net at the 6:12 mark.  Allie DiDario (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) and Lauren Cassella (Edison, N.J.) added late goals to get Drew within one, 6-5, at halftime.

Once the second half started, it took just 58 seconds for DiDario to tie the game.  She scored again two minutes later to give the Rangers their first lead, 7-6.  After Susquehanna pulled within 8-7 at the 18:28 mark, Drew responded with five unanswered tallies to go up 13-7 and wrap up its postseason bid.

DiDario led the Rangers with five goals while adding six ground balls and three caused turnovers.  She also tallied seven draw controls, making her the first player in program history with more than 100 in a season.  Mia Campanale (Branchburg, N.J.) tallied four goals, while Nolting registered four points with two goals and two assists.  Cassella contributed two goals and an assist, and Sage Johnson (Timonium, Md.) controlled seven draws while also picking up three ground balls.  Goalkeeper Katiana Michalski (Eastchester, N.Y.) (10-6) registered 13 saves.

Brooke Klair had two goals and an assist to pace the River Hawks.  Caroline Rabiecki also scored twice, while Kathrina DeMaio handed out a pair of assists.  Mary Vilardi picked up a team-high five ground balls, and Mel Barracato registered three draw controls.  Libby Dex (4-9) was credited with 12 saves in net.

With the victory, Drew locked up the No. 4 seed in the Landmark Tournament and a semifinal matchup with top-seeded Catholic (11-6, 7-0 Landmark) on Wednesday at 4 p.m.  This marks the third consecutive season in which the Rangers will visit the Cardinals in the Landmark semifinals.    Catholic, which won each of the previous two matchups, notched a 19-5 triumph over Drew when the teams met at Ranger Stadium on March 24.
