Rangers Drop 12-5 Decision at No. 21 Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – The Drew University baseball team continued its five-game road trip by visiting No. 21 Salisbury on Thursday afternoon.  The Rangers (15-16) pounded out 13 hits, including three by Bryan Reagle (Easton, Pa.), but were unable to come away with a victory, as the Sea Gulls (26-10) earned a 12-5 win at Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

Salisbury took an early 5-0 lead, scoring three runs in the first and two in the second.  Eric DiPietro (Devon, Pa.) roped an RBI single in the third to pull the Rangers within 5-1, but the Sea Gulls put up a five-spot in the fourth and added another run in the fifth.

After Reagle crushed his first career homer leading off the seventh, Salisbury picked up another run in the eighth.  Drew then rallied for three in the top of the ninth.  Tom Burr (Alexandria, Va.) started the rally with an infield single, and he scored on Reagle's double down the left field line.  DiPietro followed with an RBI single, while Joseph Grossane's (Merrick, N.Y.) two-out single to right made the final score 12-5.

Reagle finished a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs.  Brian Dagostino (Southbury, Conn.) had two hits, while Burr ended up 2-for-3 with a run scored.  DiPietro, meanwhile, was 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs.  Starting pitcher Jendy Castillo (Newark, N.J.) took the loss.  He allowed three runs on three hits and a walk while also recording a strikeout in 0.1 innings.  Five relievers followed, highlighted by Mike Mancuso's (East Haven, Conn.) 2.2 shutout innings.

For the Sea Gulls, Jack Berry went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs.  Justin Meekins was 3-for-3 with four runs scored, while Scott Ardoin ended up 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.  Will Gutekunst, meanwhile, finished 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and two RBIs.  Starter Wes Whitlock (4-0) pitched six innings.  He yielded one run on eight hits and struck out eight.  Brad Keith gave up one run on one hit and struck out two in two innings before Jack Cheney surrendered three runs on four hits with two strikeouts in the ninth.

Drew (5-7 Landmark) resumes its Landmark Conference slate with a three-game series at Susquehanna (14-19, 6-6 Landmark) this weekend.  The doubleheader on Saturday gets underway at 12:30 p.m., while Sunday's series finale is scheduled for 12 p.m.
