Rangers Earn 19-16 Comeback Win at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – After trailing 9-2 late in the first half, the Drew University women's lacrosse team came all the way back to tie Elizabethtown at intermission on Saturday afternoon.  The Rangers (8-4, 2-1 Landmark) then outscored the Blue Jays (6-5, 2-1 Landmark) 10-7 in the second half to earn a 19-16 triumph at Wolf Field.

Allie DiDario (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) recorded the first goal of the game, but Elizabethtown rallied for nine of the next 10 scores to go up 9-2 with 7:48 left before halftime.  However, a Lauren Cassella (Edison, N.J.) tally at the 6:44 mark started the Rangers' comeback effort.  Drew then scored six times in the last 3:11 of the half to tie the game, with DiDario netting the equalizer with 10 seconds left before halftime.

The Rangers opened the second half with a Mia Campanale (Branchburg, N.J.) tally, then, after the Blue Jays tied it, rattled off four straight scores to go up 14-10.  Elizabethtown rallied to tie the score at 15-15 with 6:11 remaining, but Drew won the ensuing draw and capped the possession with Charly Nolting's (Craik, Sask.) go-ahead goal at the 5:59 mark.  That goal started a 4-0 run which put the Rangers in front 19-15 before Elizabethtown closed out the scoring.  With the 19-16 victory, Drew improved to 3-0 at Elizabethtown since the Blue Jays joined the conference.

Campanale, DiDario and Jenna Morelli (Monroe Township, N.J.) paced the Rangers with four goals apiece.  Campanale added two assists and three ground balls, while DiDario also tallied an assist, eight draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.  Morelli, meanwhile, finished with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.  In addition to making 14 saves, Katiana Michalski (Eastchester, N.Y.) (8-4) picked up a team-high five ground balls, as Drew held a 25-21 advantage in that category.

Madelyn Baker scored six goals for the Blue Jays, while Carly Thompson recorded four goals and three assists.  Katie Thompson, meanwhile, had nine points on two goals and seven assists to go along with eight ground balls, five draw controls and five caused turnovers.  Lexie Sharpe also scored twice, and she added eight draw controls.  Goalkeeper Abby Kopytko (6-5) notched 11 saves for Elizabethtown.

Drew returns home for the only time in a five-game stretch next Saturday, when Moravian (8-2, 2-1 Landmark) visits Ranger Stadium at 12 p.m.  The Rangers and Greyhounds are two of the four teams currently tied for second place in the Landmark standings.
