Todero's Penalty Stroke Vaults Rangers at William Paterson

WAYNE, N.J. – Senior Kate Todero buried a penalty-stroke goal late in the first half and the Drew University field hockey team earned its first victory of the season with a 1-0 win at William Paterson in a non-conference affair Wednesday evening.

The Difference: With 6:13 remaining in the opening half, freshman Mallory Holson was fouled when her stick was held at the line. Head coach Jess Gray then called on Todero, who drilled in a well-placed shot into the lower-right side of the cage for her second collegiate goal.

Tough Defense: Senior Ryann Callaghan saved six shots to earn her second consecutive shutout. She stood tall early in the second half, making three of her saves in just over a minute. Sophomore defender Mackenzie Hascup made a key defensive save in the second period to help keep the Pioneers (2-3) off the scoreboard. The back line of Callaghan, Hascup, Todero, and freshman Carly Schiller have not allowed a goal in regulation over the last 173 minutes.

Stats Sheet: William Paterson held advantages in shots (18-2) and penalty corners (2-0).

Up Next: The Rangers (1-4) return home when they host Delaware Valley on Saturday at noon in another non-conference outing.
