MADISON, N.J. – Senior
Ryann Callaghan made 11 saves, but the Drew University field hockey team fell 3-0 to Goucher College in its Landmark Conference (LC) opener on Saturday afternoon in Ranger Stadium.
The Difference: It was an evenly-played contest in the early going, with both squads going on offensive runs. But with 10:47 left in the half, Ariana Hooper capitalized for the Gophers (4-3, 1-0 LC) with a redirected ball on the left post with what held up as the game-winning goal. Goucher's Maya Belin added two insurance tallies in the final five minutes to set the final score.
Between The Pipes: Callaghan posted her second double-digit save total of the season and showcased her skill in goal with numerous diving stops, including one on a penalty stroke early in the second half. Callaghan piled up 10 of her saves in the second half.
Stat Sheet: The Gophers outshot the Rangers 16-7. Goucher was awarded nine penalty corners to Drew's five.
Up Next: The Rangers (1-7, 0-1 LC) end their four-game homestand on Tuesday at 7 p.m. with a non-conference outing versus Stevens Institute of Technology. Landmark Conference play will resume for Drew next Saturday in Washington, D.C. against the Catholic University of America.
