Late Goal Lifts Stevens Over Field Hockey

MADISON, N.J. – Stevens Institute of Technology broke a scoreless tie with just under 10 minutes remaining and the Ducks held on for a 1-0 win over the Drew University field hockey team in a non-conference game in Ranger Stadium Tuesday evening.

The Difference: Stevens (6-3) put up 13 shots over the opening 60 minutes but were unable to dent Ranger goalie Ryann Callaghan, who made all of her seven saves over the stretch. But the Ducks finally broke through after Callaghan saved a point-blank shot that deflected into the right side of the circle and was rebounded in by Ireland Tawney for the game-winning goal.

Top Performers: Despite facing pressure much of the game, the Ranger back row of Mackenzie Hascup, Carly Schiller, and Kate Todero limited Stevens' shots on goal. Tawney's tally was one of only two shots on frame for the Ducks in the second half. Callaghan enjoyed an outstanding first period, when she turned aside six shots.

Stat Sheet: The Ducks finished with advantages in shots (14-3) and penalty corners (10-4). Emily Sneddon made three saves earn the shutout for Stevens.

Up Next: The Rangers (1-8) return to Landmark Conference action on Saturday, when they visit Catholic University at 1 p.m.
