Callaghan Sets Career Saves Record

CHESTER, Pa. – Senior Ryann Callaghan turned aside 16 shots and broke the school record for career saves, but the Drew University field hockey team lost by a final of 3-0 at Widener University in non-conference action Wednesday evening.

Turning Point: It was a scoreless affair for the first 25 minutes before the Pride broke through, striking off a corner. Callaghan rejected 11 shots in the opening period to keep the Rangers within a goal at the half. But Widener pulled away in the second stanza, scoring twice over a six-minute stretch midway through the half.

Record Breaker: With her second save of the night, Callaghan surpassed the previous school record of 524 set by Tami-Lynn Hineline from 1990-93. A four-year starter, she now has 539 saves for her career.

Stat Sheet: Widener (1-1) earned advantages in shots (25-3) and corners (11-6). Sophomore Camryn Koch, freshman Raquel Kelly, and senior Kate Todero attempted one shot apiece for the Rangers (0-3).

Up Next: Drew returns home to face Keuka College on Saturday at 10 a.m. in a non-conference match-up.
