MADISON, N.J. - For the second match in a row, sophomore
Sarah Racine scored the game's only goal and the Drew University women's soccer team (3-1) captured its home opener with a 1-0 victory over the United States Coast Guard Academy (2-1) at a rainy Ranger Stadium on the opening day of the Drew Fall Festival. The victory was the third in a row for Drew and marked win No. 250 for Ranger head coach
Christa Racine.
The Difference: The Rangers were able to capitalize off of a strong offensive push when Racine gathered a loose ball 23 yards out from the goal and fired off a beautiful curving ball to the left top corner of the net in the 22nd minute. Racine also provided all of the offense in Drew's 1-0 win at Manhattanville on Wednesday.
Other Key Moments: Sophomore goalkeeper
Madison Dudziec made a season-high six saves, including a pair of impressive stops that made Racine's goal stand up. She met on oncoming attacker with a sliding stop in the 36th minute, and she dove low to swat away a close-range rip in the 50th minute.
Stat Sheet: The Rangers outshot Coast Guard 6-3 in the opening half, but the Bears held a 5-1 advantage in the second period. However, that's when Dudziec made four of her saves. The whistle was blown 10 times for fouls - five for each squad.
Up Next: The Blue and Green look to carry their positive momentum into Sunday as they face Bard College at 2 p.m. in the final game of the Drew Fall Festival.
