Rangers Power Past Juniata

MADISON, N.J. - Senior guard Hailey Stine scored a game-high 21 points and the Drew University women's basketball team led from start to finish in a convincing 78-49 victory over Juniata College in Landmark Conference (LC) action Saturday afternoon in Baldwin Gym. Sophomore guard Julia Ramos contributed 17 points and five steals for the Rangers (11-7, 4-4 LC), who forced 26 turnovers and avenged a loss earlier this month to the Eagles (7-12, 5-3 LC).
 
How it Happened: Drew opened the game on a 9-0 run and led 21-16 at the end of the first quarter. The Rangers pushed their lead into double figures in the second period, when it outscored the Eagles 15-8 to assume a 36-24 lead at the break. The Blue and Green stayed hot in the second half, when they outscored Juniata 42-25 to win going away. Drew pushed its advantage to 20 late in the third quarter, then put it out of reach with a 15-4 run in the final stanza that gave the hosts their largest lead of the day at 32.
 
Top Performers: Stine posted the second 20-point game of her career, shooting 7-for-14 and 4-for-10 from 3-point range. She also dished out a career-high five assists. Ramos went 7-for-8 at the free-throw line while recording all five her steals in the first half. Sophomore forward Erin Fredrick contributed 13 points and six rebounds while freshman forward Cecelia Kracht and freshman guard Brooke Timinski contributed nine points apiece off the bench. Junior guard Lisa Cappiello also distributed a career-high five assists for the Rangers.
 
Stat Sheet: The Rangers shot a season-high 53.7 percent from the floor and passed out 19 assists – their second-highest total of the year. Drew turned Juniata's 26 turnovers into 37 points. The Eagles held a 40-32 rebounding advantage.
 
Next Up: Drew returns home on Wednesday, when they take on Moravian College at 7 p.m. in another Landmark Conference tilt.
