ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Drew University field hockey team shut out Elizabethtown College over the final three quarters, but the host Blue Jays used a goal midway through the opening period to edge the Rangers 1-0 in a Landmark Conference (LC) match-up Saturday afternoon.
Freshman
Lauren Zultowski placed a shot on goal just five minutes into the contest for Drew, but it was saved by Elizabethtown goalie Madeline Katchel. It would turn out to be Drew's final shot on frame. Two minutes later, E-towns' Bethany Gayman rebounded in her own deflected shot off the pads of Ranger keeper
Joie Slossar, who finished the day with 11 stops.
The Rangers held the Jays to just three shots in the first quarter before the hosts reeled off 13 shots over the next two periods. But that's when Slossar made eight of her saves. She kept her team in striking distance with another two rejections in the fourth quarter, and she has now posted a double-digit save total in her last three games.
Drew continues its season on Wednesday, when it visits the University of Scranton in another Landmark Conference affair beginning at 7 p.m.
