MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University field hockey team put a scare into undefeated Stockton University, but the Ospreys earned a 4-2 victory in a non-conference match-up Wednesday evening at a rain-soaked Ranger Stadium.
Stockton (10-0) went up 2-0 early in the second quarter, only to see the Rangers twice pull to within a goal. But the visitors secured their win in the fourth quarter, scoring the only goal of the period.
Drew broke a string of three consecutive shutouts for the Ospreys, who had allowed just two goals in their last five games entering the night.
The game was played through a pouring rain during much of the first half.
With Stockton holding their early two-goal lead, sophomore
April Serratelli scored her first collegiate goal to slice the deficit in half with 5:59 on the clock. From the right side of the field, senior
Sami Strathern sent a cross through traffic to an the left post, where Serratelli flipped the ball into the cage for her first collegiate goal.Â
The Ospreys answered two and a half minutes later and carried a 3-1 lead into halftime intermission despite holding just a 6-5 shot advantage.
The Rangers answered with 6:15 left in the third quarter, when freshman
Lauren Zultowski drilled in her team-leading fourth goal of the season with a shot in front of the cage. Drew's second goal was also set up on an assist from Strathern, who split a pair of defenders before crossing the ball in from the right once again.
Stockton added an insurance goal early in the fourth quarter, when it took the only six shots of the period.
Freshman
Bridget Kenny finished with a pair of saves for the Rangers.Â
Drew returns to Landmark Conference play on Saturday, when it hosts Catholic University starting at 1 p.m.
