Ramos Erupts for 33 as Rangers Ground River Hawks

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Sophomore guard Julia Ramos exploded for a career-high 33 points, including 22 in the second half, leading the Drew University women's basketball to a 67-50 victory at Susquehanna University in a Landmark Conference (LC) affair Wednesday evening. The Rangers (13-8, 6-5 LC) are now tied for fourth place in the conference standings with three games remaining.

How it Happened: Drew never trailed after scoring the first six points of the game, and the Rangers used a stifling defensive effort to assume an 11-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. The River Hawks (6-15, 3-8 LC) whittled the deficit down to one with 7:28 left in the opening half, but the Rangers closed the period on a 10-2 run and led 25-16 at the break. The offense picked up for both sides in the second half and each team scored 19 points in the third quarter, when Ramos poured in 13 points. The Rangers pulled away in the final stanza, outscoring the hosts 23-15 as Ramos added nine more points.

Top Performers: Ramos' 33 points are tied for the seventh-most in school history and were the most since current Drew Assistant Coach Michaela Keegan scored 36 at Moravian College last season. Ramos shot 10-for-22, including 6-for-9 from 3-point range and 7-for-9 at the foul line. For good measure, she also swiped four steals. Senior guard Hailey Stine added 16 points and six rebounds while shooting 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. Sophomore forward Erin Frederick and senior forward Sarah Henig grabbed seven rebounds apiece while Frederick also dished out four assists.

Stat Sheet: The Rangers shot 46.9 percent for the game and went a season-best 58.8 percent (10-for-17) from 3-point territory. Drew held Susquehanna to 36.0 percent shooting and out-rebounded the Hawks 35-27.

Next Up: The Blue and Green return home on Saturday, when they take on Elizabethtown College at 2 p.m. in Landmark Conference play.
