FREDERICK, Md. – For the second game in a row, the Drew University men's basketball team used a second-half comeback to earn a victory in the ECAC Division III Championship Tournament. The Rangers (23-6) trailed by nine early in the second period but rallied for a 77-69 victory over Marymount University in the quarterfinals Friday evening at Hood College. Senior forward
Nate Aldrich led Drew with 21 points, including 11 in a row for Drew in a crucial second-half stretch.
How it Happened: The Saints (17-13) led for most of the opening half and went into the locker room with a 38-32 advantage. Marymount pushed its advantage to 41-32 a minute and a half into the second period before the Rangers assembled a two-minute, 7-0 run capped by a 3-pointer from junior guard
Cole Hanntz that made a two-point game. The Saints answered with a pair of 3-pointers to push the lead back to eight but that's when Drew responded with a big 11-0 run and the Rangers would not trail again.
After Drew twice pushed its lead to eight, Marymount responded by drawing to within two on both occasions. But Aldrich first had the answer, converting a conventional 3-point play with 3:10 left to make it 69-64 and give him his 11 consecutive points. Senior forward
Sky Harris then converted a fast-break lay-up off a dish from senior guard
Dan Roibal with 1:49 to go that made it 73-69, and the Rangers would hold Marymount scoreless the rest of the way.
Top Performers: Aldrich shot a red-hot 10-for-12 from the field, and he also grabbed seven rebounds to go with three steals. Harris netted 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting off the bench while junior guard
