MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's lacrosse team pulled to within two goals in the closing minutes after trailing by five, but the rally ran out of time as FDU-Florham won 8-6 in the Battle of Madison Avenue Wednesday evening in Ranger Stadium. Junior
Kevin Goettlich scored three goals to lead the Rangers, who scored the game's final three goals.
Highlights
• It was a defensive game over the first three quarters and the Devils (4-3) led 2-1 at the end of the first period. Goettlich provided Drew's first tally.
• Goettlich struck again early in the second quarter before junior
Kyle MacDonnell cashed in with 5:16 on the clock, putting the Rangers up 3-2.
• FDU answered with a 6-0 run that spanned the final three quarters. It was a 3-3 game at the half, and the visitors led just 4-3 heading into the final stanza. The Devils led 8-3 after scoring their final goal with 8:11 left.
• The Rangers would not go away, however, and a man-up tally from Goettlich sparked the rally. Junior
Nicholas Polacek responded with his team's final two goals, with his final tally coming at the 2:11 mark. But FDU won the ensuing face-off and was able to run out the remainder of the clock.
