HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Drew University men's tennis team split a pair of matches on Tuesday, the second day of competition during its Spring Break trip.
The Rangers opened the d with a 5-4 win over Bridgewater (Va.) College. Drew (5-2) bolted to a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles competition before holding on with victories at Nos. 5-6 singles.
Junior
Karel Raska and sophomore
Bryce Kennedy earned two victories apiece versus Bridgewater. Raska won at both No. 2 doubles (8-4) and No. 5 singles (6-1, 6-0) while Kennedy was triumphant at No. 3 doubles (8-5) and No. 6 singles. (6-0, 6-0)
Freshman
Dan Blumenthal teamed up with Raska in doubles play while junior
Bryce Weizer played alongside Kennedy. At No. 1 doubles, junior
Geoffrey Diehl and senior
Vineet Vemulapally prevailied 8-3.
Later in the evening, the Rangers took on Wallace State, a perennial junior college powerhouse, and lost 7-2. Blumenthal won 8-6 at second singles and Weizer recorded a 6-4, 7-5 victory at sixth singles.
Drew takes Wednesday off before playing St. John Fisher College on Wednesday back at Hilton Head.
