MADISON, N.J - The Drew University men's tennis team defeated Elizabethtown College 7-2 in a Landmark Conference match-up Saturday afternoon at the Drew Tennis Complex. With the win, the Rangers improved to 13-6 overall and 3-3 in the Landmark Conference while the Blue Jays dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
The Rangers swept the doubles points, beginning with an 8-3 decision from The No. 1 doubles tandem of senior Vineet Vemulapally and junior Geoffrey Diehl. At the No. 2 slot, junior Karel Raska and freshman Jeremy Gottlieb were victorious by a score of 8-3. To finish off the sweep, the No. 3 doubles team of freshman Billy MacDonald and senior Will Morrison won 8-0.
In singles play, the Rangers took four out of six flights. Vemulapally was victorious 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 position while freshman Dan Blumenthal went the distance to best his opponent 5-7, 7-6, 6-4.
Sophomore Bryce Kennedy and freshman Bret Shuler pushed their opponents to a third set but fell short.
Junior Lloyd Goldstein and junior Bryce Weizer both took down their opponents in straight sets at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively.
Drew continues its season on Monday, when it hosts Ramapo College and the College of Saint Elizabeth on Senior Day beginning at 4 p.m.
