Softball Drops a Pair of Close Ones at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Drew University softball team erased a four-run deficit, but Susquehanna University came back to win 8-6 in the opener of a Landmark Conference (LC) doubleheader on Saturday. The River Hawks went on to capture the nightcap 5-2 to come away with a sweep.

Game 1 Highlights
• The Rangers trailed 4-0 heading into the top of the fifth inning before rallying with four runs of their own to tie the score. Freshmen Madi Precht and Paxtan Perry each singled before sophomore Sophie Sirota capped the big inning with a two-run single.
• Susquehanna (13-10, 4-4 LC) came right back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to assume an 8-4 lead.
• Drew refused to go way, however, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth. Sophomore Jasmine Vera and Precht each singled before Perry drilled a two-run single, pulling the Rangers within two.
• Senior Cara O'Leary blanked the River Hawks in the bottom of the inning, and in the seventh the Rangers had the tying at the plate after a one-out single from Sirota. But Susquehanna starter Alexa Gonzalez retired the next two batters to end the game.

Game 2 Highlights
• The River Hawks built a 5-0 lead over the first three innings, but freshman Skyler Colarusso kept the Rangers in it with three shutout innings of relief.
• Drew chipped away at the deficit with single runs in the fourth and seventh. Vera doubled and scored on a single from sophomore Adriana Rodriguez in the fourth, and in the seventh, senior Katie Grodski, Sirota, and freshman Renata Primmer drilled three straight singles.

• Sirota went 4-for-7 with a pair of RBIs over the twinbill.
