Arcadia Takes Two From Softball

MADISON, N.J. - Playing their final home games of the season, the Rangers lost both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to a tough Arcadia University team Thursday afternoon at the Drew University Softball Complex. Despite a big rally late in the game, Drew lost the opener 9-4 before dropping a 9-0 decision in the nightcap. The Knights entered the game leading the MAC Commonwealth Conference standings and finished the day with a 26-10 record.

Game 1 Highlights
• Sophomore Megan Hulmes tossed a pair of shutout innings to open the game before Arcadia pushed across a run in the third. The visitors then broke it open with six runs in the third, assuming a 7-0 lead.
• The Rangers broke up Mary Pat Murray's shutout with a four-run sixth, making it a three-run game. Freshman Madi Precht started the rally with a one-out double and scored on a single from classmate Paxtan Perry. First-year Julia Sinatra capped the big inning with a two-run double that made it 7-4.
• Arcadia responded with a pair of insurance runs in the seventh versus senior reliever Cara O'Leary before Murray blanked the Rangers in the bottom of the inning to close out the game.

Game 2 Highlights
• The Knights raced out to a quick 5-0 lead in the nightcap, scoring three runs in the first and two in the second versus freshman starter Skyler Colarusso. A pair of errors resulted in all five runs being unearned. Defensive miscues continued to hurt the Rangers later in the game, as the team's last four runs versus sophomore Stephanie Burns were also unearned.
• Arcadia starting pitcher Kylee Schwind carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, but that's when freshman Kaylie Kaffl slapped a single into rightfield with one out. However, she was left there after Schwind induced back-to-back flyouts.
• The Rangers singled in the next two innings as well but could not capitalize. In the sixth, Precht roped a leadoff single, but Schwind retired the next five batters. Kaffl drilled a two-out single in the seventh before Schwind recorded a strikeout to end the game.
