Women’s Lax Topples Goucher as Cassella Scores 100th Goal

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season on a high note, cruising past Goucher College 19-3 in a Landmark Conference (LC) tilt Saturday afternoon in Ranger Stadium on Senior Day. Sophomore Lauren Cassella and freshman Meliha Emini scored four goals apiece for the Rangers (14-3, 4-3 LC), with Cassella's first goal giving her 100 for her career.

Prior to the start of the game, Drew's four seniors – Ryann Callaghan, Mia Campanale, Mackenzie Hascup, and Shaylyn MacKinnon – were honored in a brief ceremony.
 
Highlights
• After Goucher (8-7, 1-6 LC) scored the game's first goal, the Rangers reeled off an 8-0 run to take command early.
•  Cassella reached her milestone just over three minutes in. Five other Rangers would score during the team's big start.
• Goucher stopped the bleeding with 14:43 left in the half, only to see the Rangers end the period on a 6-0 run as their lead swelled to 14-2 at the half. Cassella scored all four of her goals in the opening 30 minutes, with her last tally giving her a team-leading 40 goals on the season.
• Drew went on to outscore the Gophers 5-1 in the second half, when Emini and freshman Belle Lutz eached scored twice.
 
Top Performers
• Emini doubled her previous season-high for goals while adding four ground ball and four draw controls.
• Cassella has now scored at least four goals in seven different games this year.
• Senior Mia Campanale added three goals while Lutz, freshman Kendall Hartt, and freshman Hailey Simmons scored two goals apiece.
• Sophomore Kat Michalski registered five saves over 49 minutes of action.
 
Stat Sheet
The Rangers outshot Goucher 34-9 and held a 15-5 advantage in ground balls. Drew also allowed the Gophers to successfully complete just half (8-19) of their clears.
 
Next Up
Drew continues its season on Wednesday, when it visits 10th-ranked Catholic University at 4 p.m. in the semifinals of the Landmark Conference semifinals.
