Rangers Fall to No. 10 Catholic in Landmark Semis

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Drew University women's lacrosse team outscored Catholic University 6-2 over the final 22 minutes, but the rally ran out of time as the top-seeded and 10th-ranked Cardinals defeated the fourth-seeded Rangers 13-7 in the semifinals of the Landmark Conference Championship Tournament Wednesday afternoon.
 
Next Up
Catholic (14-4) moves on to the conference championship game, where it will face 18th-ranked Scranton. The Rangers (14-4) will now hope for a possible bid in the ECAC Division III Championship; the field will be announced on Monday.
 
Highlights
• Sophomore Lauren Cassella answered an early goal for Catholic, scoring with 25:07 on the clock to make it 1-1. But that's when the Cardinals put together a decisive 10-0 run that overlapped into the second half, opening up an 11-1 lead with 25:22 remaining.
• Cassella broke the drought for the Rangers, scoring with 21:41 left to kick off the team's late run.
• Freshman Hailey Simmons added back-to-back tallies to make it an 11-4 game with 18:34 to go. Catholic scored the next two goals before the Rangers close the day on a 3-0 spurt.
• Sophomore Charly Nolting, junior Allie DiDario, and freshman Meliha Emini all scored in the final six minutes to set the final score.
 
Top Performers
• Cassella finished with two goals and two assists while Simmons posted two goals and one helper.
• DiDario added four draw controls and four caused turnovers.
• Michalski registered 13 saves, including nine in the second half.
• Ally Criscuolo paced the Cardinals with five goals.
