Vemulapally Earns 100th Win as Rangers Down Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. – Senior Vineet Vemulapally went 2-0 to earn his 100th combined career victory and junior Karel Raska won in a third set at No. 5 singles to clinch the match, leading the Drew University men's tennis team to a 5-4 Landmark Conference (LC) victory at the University of Scranton Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Rangers (11-4, 2-1 LC) won their second-straight Landmark match and defeated Scranton (5-6, 1-2 LC) for the first time since 2012.
 
Drew opened up a 2-1 lead after winning at first and third doubles. Vemulapally teamed up with junior Geoffrey Diehl to earn victory No. 99 with an 8-6 win at No. 1 while senior Will Morrison and freshman Billy MacDonald went the distance for a tough 8-7 (7-5) victory at No. 3.
 
Vemulapally reached his milestone with a three-set victory at No. 1, prevailing by a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 count. Sophomore Bryce Kennedy added a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 before Raska delivered a clutch 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 triumph to give the Rangers the win.
 
Drew returns to the court with a pair of matches on Saturday, taking on Pratt Institute in a non-conference match-up at 10 a.m. before facing Landmark foe Juniata College at 1 p.m.
