MADISON, N.J. - Muhlenberg College scored on a penalty pick late in the first half, and it proved to be the game-winner as the Mules edged the Rangers 1-0 in a non-conference men's soccer match between a pair of regionally-ranked squads.
Drew entered the game ranked 10th in the season's first United Soccer Coaches Division III Mid-Atlantic Region poll while the Mules were sixth.
The Rangers (3-2) pressured Muhlenberg in the early going, outshooting the visitors 5-1 over the opening 30 minutes, but none of their attempts were on frame.
The Mules (3-0-1) caught a break in the 41st minute when a foul inside the box led to a penalty kick, and Chris Richards placed the ball just into the bottom-right corner of the net.
After Drew held a 5-3 shot advantage in the opening half, Muhlenberg doubled its output in the second half, earning a 6-4 edge. However, that's when senior
Jason Adamo made all four of his saves. Adamo turned in a number of additional strong plays, including punching the ball clear on both a corner kick and a dangerous throw-in.
Senior
Aidan Cserhat took five of Drew's nine shots, including the team's only shot on goal, while senior
Nick Caicedo and sophomore
Kuki Armenteros each attempted a pair of shots.
The Rangers return home on Saturday, when they take on Manhattanville College at 1 p.m. in another non-conference tilt.
