MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's tennis team opened its 2019-20 season on a high note, capturing a pair of matches on Sunday at the Drew University Tennis Complex.
The Rangers started the day with a 6-3 victory over Arcadia University, then breezed by Misericordia University 9-0.
Leading the way for the Blue and Green was senior
Geoffrey Diehl, who went a combined 4-0 on the day while competing at No. 1 singles and doubles.
Versus Arcadia, Drew raced out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles matches. Diehl and sophomore
Dan Blumenthal won 8-4 at No. 1 while sophomore
Jeremy Gottlieb and senior
Karel Raska captured an 8-6 decision at No. 2. Junior
Bryce Kennedy and sophomore
Bret Schuler completed the sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 3.
The Rangers clinched the victory by claiming wins at Nos. 1, 5, and 6 singles. Diehl won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 while Kennedy earned a three-set (6-1, 2-6, 10-7) tiebreaker victory at No. 2. Senior
Lloyd Goldstein nailed down a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 6.
Versus the Cougars, Diehl teamed with Schuler at No. 1 for an 8-2 win while Gottleib and Raska earned an 8-0 triumph at No. 2. Drew was awarded a forfeit at No. 3.
In singles play, both Diehl and Gottlieb posted perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at Nos. 1-3, respectively. Schuler won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 while Goldstein (6-0, 6-1) and sophomore
Ben Dunlap (6-2, 1-6, 10-3) prevailed at Nos. 4-5. Sophomore
