TOWSON, Md. - In a match that featured just nine total shots, Goucher College scored the game's only goals in the first quarter and the Gophers defeated the Rangers 2-0 in the field hockey team's Landmark Conference (LC) opener on Saturday.
Freshman
Lauren Zultowski put a shot on goal for Drew with 8:25 left in the opening period, but it was saved by goalie Devin Brashear. The Gophers (6-3, 1-0 LC) then scored with 7:15 left in the opening period, then again with 45 seconds remaining. But that's when the Drew defense dug in, yielding just one shot over the final three quarters.
In the meantime, the Rangers attempted four shots the rest of the way, including an attempt from freshman
Lauren Reduzzi with 5:26 left in the third quarter that found the frame but was stopped by Brashear. For the game, Drew held a 5-4 shot advantage.
Freshman
Bridget Kenny finished with two saves while going the distance in goal for the Rangers.
Drew continues its season on Wednesday, when it hosts Stockton University at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match-up.
