Walker Sets Blocks Record, but Rangers Fall to Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa - Junior forward Malachi Walker, Jr. broke the Landmark Conference single-season record for blocked shots, but Susquehanna used a big first half to hand the Rangers a 79-54 setback in Landmark Conference (LC) men's basketball action Wednesday evening.

Drew (17-5, 8-3 LC) is now in a three-way tie with Scranton and Susquehanna for first place in the conference standings.

Walker achieved his record with his fifth and final block of the night, which gave him 81 swats for the season - one more than Scranton's Paul Hawk posted during the 2008-09 campaign.

Despite the loss, the Rangers clinched their third consecutive Landmark Conference tournament berth due to losses by Catholic and Elizabethtown on Wednesday.

Junior forward Lybrant Robinson finished with 14 points to lead the Rangers while senior guard Riley Collins added 11 points and four steals. Freshman forward Howard McBurnie, Jr. contributed six rebounds and a season-high four blocks.

Bryce Butler scored 19 points to lead Susquehanna (15-7, 8-3 LC).

The River Hawks never trailed after opening the game on an 8-2 run. They used a 14-0 surge midway through the half to open up an 18-point lead and led 44-22 at halftime.

The Rangers came out hot to start the second half, opening on a 10-0 run capped by consecutive 3-pointers from Collins and Walker that made it 44-32. But Susquehanna took back the momentum with back-to-back treys of their own to push the lead back to 18, and used a 9-2 run later in the half to pull away.

Drew plays the second of three straight road games on Saturday, when it travels to Elizabethtown for a Landmark Conference tilt starting at 2 p.m.
