MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's tennis team kicked off its spring schedule with a pair of victories over FDU-Florham and Saint Elizabeth on Sunday to remain undefeated on the season.
The Rangers (6-0) started the day by defeating FDU 8-1 before blanking Saint Elizabeth 9-0.
Versus the Devils, freshman
Avi Perera, senior
Geoffrey Diehl, and senior
Karel Raska were all double-winners. The Rangers swept the doubles matches before winning five of six singles flights.
Making his collegiate debut, Perera teamed up with sophomore
Brett Schuler to win 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. Diehl and junior
Bryce Kennedy added an 8-4 win at second doubles while Raska and sophomore
Billy MacDonald prevailed in a tight 8-7 (7-3) victory at the third slot.
Perera also won at No. 1 singles (8-1), as did Diehl at No. 2 (8-2), sophomore
Jeremy Gottleib at No. 4 (8-4), Raska at No. 5 (8-2), and senior
Bryce Weizer at No. 6 (8-5).
Against the Eagles, freshmen
Leo Ambrogio,
John Dickey, and
Van Holson all collected two victories.
In doubles play, Dickey and Weizer teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 1. Sophomore
Dan Blumenthal and Holson won 8-2 at No. 2 while Ambrogio and sophomore
Ben Dunlap captured an 8-1 victory at No. 3. Singles victories were recorded by MacDonald at No. 1 (8-4), Ambrogio at No. 2 (8-3), Dickey at No. 3 (8-1), Holson at No. 4 (8-3), freshman
Ryan Money at No. 5 (8-2), and sophomore
Bret Philip at No. 6 (8-1).
The Rangers continue their season Feb. 22-23 when they host the Ranger Invitational, which will include Dominican, Manhattanville, and Ramapo.
