MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University women's basketball team closed out the regular season on a high note, beating a tough Catholic University team 76-67 in overtime Saturday afternoon on Senior Day in Baldwin Gym.
WIth the victory, the Rangers (16-9, 7-7 LC) tied the program record for single-season victories formerly held by the 2003-04 team, which finished 16-10.
The Cardinals (20-5, 11-3 LC) were tied for first place in the Landmark Conference entering the game.
Drew finished the regular season in fifth place in the Landmark standings and just one game behind the final playoff qualifier.
Freshman guard

The Rangers led for all but 3:39 in the game. After jumping to a 16-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, they led by as much as 12 in the second quarter and carried a 34-22 advantage into the locker room.
Drew continued to cruise in the second half and led 51-41 after three quarters of play. But the Cardinals rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Rangers 19-9 to force OT. Sydney Poindexter dropped in a lay-up for Catholic with seven seconds left to tie the game at 60-all, and the Rangers called timeout. The ball was advanced to the frontcourt, but a last-second shot from Ramos was off the mark.
The Cardinals scored five points in the first two minutes of the extra session; however, the Rangers held them to just a pair of free throws the rest of the way.
Drew trailed by one when Ramos provided perhaps the play of the game, drilling a 3-pointer from the right elbow with 1:18 left to put the Rangers up by two (69-67), bringing the home crowd to its feet. It was the start of a 10-0 run to end the game, as the Rangers stopped Catholic on each of its last five possessions. In the meantime, Ramos went 5-for-6 at the free-throw line to put the game away.
The Rangers will now hope for a berth in the ECAC Division III Championships; the field will be announced on Monday, March 2.
