Women's Lax Downs DeSales in Home Opener

MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University women's lacrosse team raced out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back, defeating DeSales University 19-4 in its home opener Wednesday evening at a wet Ranger Stadium.

Seven different players scored for the Rangers (2-0), led by senior Allie DiDario, who pumped in five goals to go with eight draw controls and three caused turnovers. Junior Lauren Cassella and sophomore Hailey Simmons posted three goals and two assists apiece while sophomore Kendall Hartt also scored three times.

Junior Katiana Michalski started in net and made three saves while yielding only one goal in the first half for Drew before freshman Anna Horne played the second half and stopped one shot.

DiDario scored three of Drew's first five goals and four of the team's first eight tallies. Cassella and Hartt also struck twice during the team's opening run.

Junior Charly Nolting scored a man-down goal with 7:43 left in the first half to push Drew's lead to 11-1 and bring the running clock into effect. Cassella and Simmons scored once each over the remainder of the half to put the Rangers up 13-1 at the break.

Simmons and sophomore Mary Laut scored twice apiece in the second half for the Rangers.

Drew picks up its schedule on Friday, when it visits Vassar in a non-conference match-up starting at 5 p.m.
